The National Council of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) conducts its joint entrance examination, carried out at the national level by the National Testing Agency for admissions to B.Sc. (Hospitality & Hotel Administration) in more than 63 institutes of hotel management. These institutes include government and private-aided colleges. These colleges offer degree-level programs and diploma courses that can help aspirants pursue their career. It has around 75 colleges all over India with 90 test centers in 29 cities.

Exam: It will be conducted in online mode for a duration of 3 hours. It is conducted once a year in English and Hindi languages.10+2 passed candidates can appear for this exam that is conducted once a year by the National Testing Agency.

• Numerical Ability & Analytical Aptitude: Analytical reasoning topics, arithmetic reasoning, series-number, alphabet, alphanumeric, distance, direction, algebra, profit and loss, number series, time & work, analogy-odd one out, relations, clock, calendar, figure counting, percentage, ratio & proportion and deciding.

• Reasoning & Logical deduction: Assertion reason, logical consistency, statement & assumption, statement & arguments, statements & conclusion, statement & course of action, statements & inference, cause & effect, deriving, the conclusion from the passage, syllogism, puzzle (floor, scheduling, and tabulation), (seating arrangement) circular, serating arrangement linear and tabular, order and ranking, data sufficiency and coding-decoding.

GK & Current Affairs: Business & economy, taglines, national affairs, state affairs, awards & honors, agreement & deals, current economy, science & defense, brands, logos, affairs, schemes & plans launched by Govt of India and states, books and authors, appointment (national & international) and sports.

Static GK: Geography, history, art & culture, economy, HQ of national and world organizations, Indian polity, agreement & deals, general science, national parks, currency, wildlife, UN bodies, and summit conferences.

• English language: Reading comprehension, fill in the blanks, error spotting, sentence rearrangement, idioms and phrases, odd one out, synonym & antonym, cloze test, para-jumbles, one-word substitute, figures of speech, spelling errors, and word usage.

• Aptitude for service sector: Situation-based questions which require presence of mind because it checks IQ-Intelligence Quotient; EQ-Emotional Quotient; and SQ-Social Quotient.

Preparation Tips:

  • An aspirant should know the pattern and detailed syllabus, before commencing preparation for the NCHMCT exam. Be aware of marks weightage and prepare an appropriate  strategy for each topic and always prepare for the latest updates on related topics.
  • Practicing at least five previous-year question papers to understand the pattern and level of questions that are asked can help you be clear of the difficulty level of each topic.
  • Make a study plan and allocate accurate time and adhere to that schedule.
  • Practice on a regular basis, at least one to two hours daily.
  • Read newspapers on a daily basis, to develop your general awareness, English, and reasoning areas.
  • Analyze mock tests and make consistent efforts to work on your previous mistakes.
  • Divide your time, according to the question’s difficulty level. Firstly, attempt the easy section, then proceed for the difficult ones.
  • Never ‘guess’ during the exam as there is negative marking for the wrong answers. If not sure, don’t attempt that question.
  • During preparation, focus mostly on your weak areas, which can help you score better in the exam.
  • Ensure proper sleep before the exam for better performance.
  • Always maintain a balance between speed and accuracy as it can help you solve many questions.
  • Be calm and confident as it relaxes your mind.
  • Follow Covid-19 protocols during the examination.

Eligibility Criteria for NCHMCT JEE Exam

Age limit:

  • For a candidate from the General & OBC category, the upper age limit is 22 yrs.
  • The age limit for SC/ST category is 25 yrs.

Educational qualification:

  • Secondary & senior secondary cleared in English as a major subject.
  • Senior secondary students who are waiting for results can apply with reliable proof of the same.
  • 10+2 passed/appeared candidates in Indian schools/abroad can apply for the same
